McCammon is one of my top five favorite authors. He can simply and quickly pull a reader into the world he's created with his novels. Swan Song, Boys Life, The Wolfs Hour and almost all of his Matthew Corbett series books are just wonderful reads. In fact I've read many of them more than once. However this collection of stories fell far far short of his usual high standards. I would not at all be surprised to learn that most of these stories were written by a very very young and inexperienced McCammon. I typically prefer a lengthy novel and that may be part of my issue with this collection but it's certainly not my only one. To be completely honest I was just bored with most of the book. I twice put it down and vowed not to finish. That's a BIG deal with me too. I'm 51 years old, been an avid reader since I was 12 and have only contemplated not finishing a book probably less than five times. So please don't let this be the first book you read from this typically reliable author.Tags : Blue World [Robert McCammon] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Blue World by Robert McCammon

Buddy read from Goodreads HR
Here we have a story of the nightmare the XXX—rated life style can create. A beautiful girl is shot through the head while satisfying her killer. I know, how creepy is that? Her friend, Debby (also part of this life-style), is so upset and frightened. When she finds out what has happened she goes to a priest and partakes of the Sacrament of Reconciliation, but really she just wanted to talk to someone (she thought she could trust) about it. Could she trust Fr. John, was he really the loyal priest she thought he was? Time will tell
Once again, Mr. McCammon does not disappoint this reader. The story is well written, with enough character development for 3 novels. This author takes us through the streets of San Francisco with the swiftness of a ten-speed bicycle. We get the feel of the small neighborhoods that make up this city, both good and bad. We meet friends and enemies of our two protagonist. We learn about the secondary problems of the X-rated life-style and the temptations of a good and holy priest.
For me this story was a study of God's love for all of us, no matter how far down in trash we are lying. He is ready to forgive and forget the transgression of those whom have fallen into sin, no matter the circumstances. Most importantly God can change the hardest of hearts and make something wonderfully courageous out of the worst of circumstances.
I recommend this book to any Christian who is willing to have an opened mind to see how God can work if we only allow it. Also one can see in this book how sin can so gradually come into someone's otherwise holy life, that it is hardly noticed until it's almost too late. In this novel God works in mysterious way. Maybe it's not what McCammon intended, but it's what I took from the book.
FIVE brightly colored stars for this entertaining and uplifting book
I love McCammon's writing. That said, I was not disappointed, but not overwhelmed. The stories prove his mind is even more macabre than Stephen King's. I enjoyed "Blue World" but felt the plot was simplistic, compared to what he is capable of.
Like most short story collections, there are a couple of really good stories, and the rest are just ok. The title story, "Blue World" is actually one of the weaker selections IMHO; too long, with characters that are overly exaggerrated. There are some great story ideas here, but not all of them are successful.
Although I didn't read the final novella "Blue World", the dozen short stories making up the first half of this book were mostly phenomenal. "Makeup" and "The Red House" really shined. There were a few "voice" stories where McCammon tried to get experimental, and while I didn't like those, the good stories in this collection far outweighed the bad.
This is an entertaining and skillfully written collection of twelve short stories and one novella from a master of horror. They range in quality from very good to simply amazing. Those who are fans of the horror genre will delight in these highly imaginative and creepy stories, some of which are downright scary! ). There is definitely something for everyone in this collection, where the mundane is elevated to a sublime level of horror.
My special favorites are "Yellowjacket Summer" (a wrong turn off a highway), "I Scream Man!" (a special game of scrabble), "He'll Come Knocking at Your Door" (a frightening Halloween in a small town), "Chico" (an idiot savant with a special gift), "The Red House" (the significance of being different), and "Something Passed By" (the end of the world as we know it). So, if horror is your genre, do not pass up this collection of artfully crafted stories.
On the MP3 Audiobook version the product photo says "Blue World Stories By Robert McCammon". STORIES!
The product that I received says "Blue World A Story by Robert McCammon" - which indeed there is only ONE story. The story "Blue World". I thought that I was getting the whole book of short stories on MP3 not just one story. Very disappointed.
The short stories are not great, the novella is a little better. The edition has so many typos that I would not recommend purchasing it. Grab a copy for a few bucks used if you’re a McCammon completist.
