There are 12 gifts presented and all 12 are necessary for a truly fulfilled life! This is clean, well-written book and although the adaptation of the movie is different than the book, it is a great follow-up after the book is read! The Ultimate Gift The Ultimate Series #1 Jim Stovall Elise Peterson Books Reviews
Thought provoking on life. My children are older and I could see many things I did for my kids that helped to make them who they are but at the same time I could recognize that I held them back in others. Wonderful book to read and quick read. I ordered the other two books to go along with this one.
First of all I would recommend this one to all the home schooling parents, public educators, and to anyone who needs to take a moment to get their thoughts about faith and how to live it out focused in the right direction.
It will center any one who can be centered. And grab more than a few borderline cases.
I can't recommend this book high enough!!!
I was not happy with the way the movie and book were done until I was well on my way in my reading. The book is written as it needed to be to teach us to be better than what we are. The movie was made to entertain and if we were watching close enough we might find the need to do the reading and have our lives changed. I also am doing the Golden List. What a marvelous piece of work. Thank you for writing these.
The story starts out as Red Stevens a very wealthy man dies, and his friend and lawyer administers his will. Red leaves his millions to his ungrateful family except one his great nephew Jason. Red has seen some spark in Jason and wishes to give him an ultimate gift, but Jason will need to strive for this gift. As the book progresses through the chapters, the young man, Jason, transforms from an insolent know-it-all to a much different person.
A voice from the past challenges him to discover about The Gift of Work, the Gift of Money, The Gift of Friends, The Gift of Learning, The Gift of Problems (yes, problems), The Gift of Family, The Gift of Laughter, The Gift of Dreams, The Gift of Giving, The Gift of Gratitude, the Gift of a Day, The Gift of Love, and of course the Ultimate gift. The series of learning’s, prescribed each month by the old man by videotape, gives a new meaning to Jason's life. Each of the gifts wisdoms is described in Jason's words as he gains new realizations.
I found myself surprisingly captivated by this book. I couldn't put it down. In clear simple language the storyteller leads the reader through a process of discovery in a quest for life's great gifts. This book should be read by everyone young and old.
The Ultimate Gift is truly one of the best books I’ve ever read. Mr Stovall outlined ten gifts that are ours to give and receive at anytime in our lives. There are a couple of them that I will be acting on immediately in my life. I don’t want to share them as they are deeply personal, but I can tell you that acting on those gifts will impact my life and heart in ways I never imagined before. We have so much to be grateful for, whether we are rich or poor in “money”, “things” or “life”. Thank you, Mr Stovall, for the reminder and helping me remember I have a purpose in this life.
I began the book with no expectations. I only knew that being a Cook offering it would be Christ centered even if it did not spend a moment "preaching." I am slow on the uptake and it took me a couple of chapters to get the hang of what was going on. After that, each chapter contained its own variation on the theme. That was what kept me coming back for more, the next transformation toward the "Ultimate" transformation. The pace was maintained by each month being the presentation, sometimes a little of the struggle and the summary. This could have been a much longer book but I think that it wasn't was very deliberate. Redeeming transformation is a cause for rejoicing and this story brought joy, education and edification. Very entertainingly done.
I've found that there are two books out there with this title that share reviews. The first is "The Ultimate Gift" by Jim Stovall. The second is "The Ultimate Gift" by Rene Gutteridge. The second one is the movie version of the story. The original story was changed when made into a movie, as most books are. When I bought this book on my kindle the other day, the "about the author" section on was about Jim Stovall, and the reviews about the book (both editorial and customer) were about the original book; however, when I started reading it, it didn't take me long to figure out that it wasn't the original, since I had read that a few years ago. For those of you who want the book to be just like the movie, the Rene Gutteridge version is the way to go. If you want the original version, then Jim Stovall is the author you need. Just be sure to check which author is listed at the very top of the page.
